Managing pixels in Photoshop - Resample Image is unchecked

The picture below is 600 pixels wide by 399 pixels high. We wish to downsize the picture to be a small thumbnail for a web page link. If Resample Image is unchecked in the Image>Image Size dialog box, will this picture become the desired thumbnail?

Solution

The picture is 600 pixels wide by 399 pixels high, and the original pixels WILL NOT BE CHANGED when Resample Image is unchecked. The picture will not become a thumbnail for the web because it remains the same pixel dimensions as before.

Resampling means that pixels will be added (through interpolation) or removed from the picture. When Resample Image is unchecked as in this example, the pixels cannot be changed. Because the web doesn't care much about the picture's resolution or document (print) size, the picture remains the same.
