Student File Storage and Web Pages on Oak

As an Ohio University student, you have 200MB of network storage available to you. Part of this storage can be used to serve web pages. In order to use this feature, go to http://technology.ohio.edu/ and click on My Account. Enable (or disable) your web site following the link given there. NOTE: It's SLOW! It might take half-hour from the time you click until it's completed.

The public_html folder is where web pages should be copied after you enable your web site, and the home page in that folder should be named "index.html". It is possible to have sub-folders containing different web sites within the public_html folder, but each of those folders should have a separate file named index.html within it to provide a short URL and easy access.

Copying and managing files on the Oak server:

Macintosh.
On a Macintosh running OSX 10.4 or higher, use the Go menu item and type in your personal address as explained at http://technology.ohio.edu/webdav/instructions.html . You can then drag and drop folders into and out of your Oak server space. Remember that web pages should be copied to the public_html folder (which must first be enabled as described above).

PC:
On a PC, all you need to do is to use Internet Explorer and File>Open to bring up the dialog box in which you check "Open as Web Folder" and type in your personal address as explained at http://technology.ohio.edu/webdav/instructions.html . You can then drag and drop folders into and out of your Oak server space. Remember that web pages should be copied to the public_html folder (which must first be enabled as described above).

Once you attach to the server, drag and drop the appropriate files into and out of the server space. Pay attention to proper file naming conventions! Try to use all lowercase filenames also.
