Immortalized! (sort of)
I sometimes perform technical editing for books about graphics software. The work requires me to work closely with the author. For books about Corel software, author Gary Bouton's humor makes my life easier. We constantly exchange emails and banter with each other. I greatly enjoy working with Gary even though we've never met in person, and the shared humor keeps us slugging along on a 500-page book.
For the CorelDRAW X5: The Official Guide (published by McGraw-Hill in 2009), I had sent Gary a photo of me in jest. In the photo, I was doing a spiral in a Santa hat and carrying Santa's gift bag. The picture was made during a holiday skating show practice.
Gary immediately said that he was going to do something "fun" with that picture for the book. Uh-oh! I knew that I was in trouble!
This is what came of the photo...
Using the original photo in a chapter about picture manipulation, Gary placed me into a turtle pond scene. I still cringe a little each time I see the illustration, but Gary had warned me!
It shows that you must be careful when sending quirky photos to someone with a sense of humor!
